Anthropic's IPO file reads like a warning label

A prospectus seen by Reuters warns investors of catastrophic risk, even as the Claude maker heads toward one of the largest listings on record.

Anthropic is preparing one of the most valuable IPOs on record, and the paperwork reads like a safety report. According to a prospectus reviewed by Reuters, the Claude maker plans to warn potential investors that the technology "may pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity."

The filing lands amid a month of extraordinary safety disclosures across the industry. CEO Dario Amodei published an essay last month calling on rivals to slow the frontier, and The Information reported this week that Anthropic's rapid but slowing growth could weigh on the valuation. CNBC reported that third-quarter revenue is said to hit $16.8 billion ahead of the listing.

The company has embedded third-party AI evaluators, a step OpenAI said it would join. Whether public-market investors price the warnings, or just the growth, will be the first big test of frontier-risk disclosure.
